The major challenges of our time cannot be solved within national borders. Global megatrends such as the energy revolution, urbanisation and Globalisation 2.0 affect regions all over the world, each with their own specific requirements.
This is why Wilo brings together people, knowledge and expertise across different industries and national borders. International cooperation is an integral part of our identity: we combine technological expertise with local experience, foster dialogue with academia, politics, economics and wider society, and work together to develop solutions for future water infrastructure.
Partnerships for water infrastructure projects and expertise development
Future-focused developments emerge when different skillsets come together. That is why the Wilo Group works with companies, research organisations, public institutions and other partners around the world.
In doing so, Wilo combines its expertise in water technology, digitalisation and AI with local knowledge and requirements. This exchange brings particular value when it comes to complex infrastructure issues: technological possibilities intersect with regional circumstances, practical experience and differing perspectives.
Case study: Smart Urban Areas in Vietnam
The Smart Urban Areas project in Vietnam is a prime example of this approach. Together with the Technical University of Dortmund, Wilo organised a kick-off conference for the research project in Vietnam. The project explored how urban spaces can be designed for the future in the face of urbanisation, digitalisation and climate change.
This example illustrates how international cooperation brings together knowledge from research and practice while taking local perspectives into consideration. This exchange is crucial, particularly when it comes to developing smart urban and water infrastructure: solutions must be technologically effective and adapted to specific regional circumstances.
The Global WATER AI Academy connects international stakeholders
A new dimension of international cooperation is emerging at the intersection of water and artificial intelligence. With the Global WATER AI Academy, Wilo has created an international hub for innovation, education and cooperation.
The Academy combines industrial practice with scientific expertise and brings together partners from science, industry, technology and infrastructure. The main activities include joint research, knowledge and technology transfer, practical use cases, and the development of digital and AI-based solutions for water management.
The network is growing steadily. Partners include Heriot-Watt University, TU Dortmund University, the EUREF Talent Campus, the Emschergenossenschaft and Lippeverband water management association, Mitsubishi Electric Europe and InstaDeep. Together, these partners form an international network that combines diverse skills and perspectives.
Scaling up innovation together
Many challenges can only be overcome if successful approaches are replicated across regions and countries. Wilo therefore promotes the international transfer of knowledge between markets, projects and partners. In this way, lessons learnt in one region can be applied and further developed in other parts of the world.
Technologies and data-driven platforms facilitate the international exchange of knowledge and experience, helping new approaches to be shared more quickly across markets, projects and partners. Particularly in the fields of digitalisation and artificial intelligence, this is giving rise to new forms of international cooperation that are increasingly transcending geographical boundaries.
Case study: develoPPP
One example of this is participation in develoPPP projects run by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. Here, the Wilo Group works alongside public institutions, local partners and international organisations on infrastructure projects in developing and emerging economies.
By combining technical know-how, local experience and long-term expertise development, we create solutions that have an impact beyond individual projects and promote development over the long term.
